It depends, if you play metal and shit alot, youll probably want better pickups, alnico if i remember correctly is supposed to be bluesy, and makes for a low output softer pickup.

If you want metal tones try bareknuckles.

Infact try bareknuckles anyway they do alot of different stuff, and i've not seen a single bad review about any of thier pickups yet.
Thanks, yeah that;s what I wanted to know.

Um, probably just general stuff, majority being hard rock

metal's great but impossible/hard to play

Well in about 6 months you'll think you're the shit, then in another month or two you'll realize you're not and want to quit. Stick with it even if you feel discouraged and then you'll be fine.

I intend to, half of my friends think that they are "The shizit" because they can play a couple of chords after 3 months of playing.

    it's really quite frightening D:

Probably sooner. You go through a short period of "Holy shit, I can play guitar, I'm awesome", followed by a very, very long period of "Holy shit, I suck balls."

I've been playing for almost a year now, and I still don't know all the chords, but then again I never took the time to learn them all anyways...

We're not depressed, we're just being realistic. I've only been playing for about a year. I'm not even close to being good. I went through the "I can play guitar, holyshit I'm awesome" phase in about March. I've passed through the worst of the "I suck balls" phase and now I'm in sort of an "I'll get better if I keep at it for a while" state of mind.

Yeah, I never had the "Holy shit, I'm awesome" period, I just had the "Hey I can sorta play somewhat decently now" Phase. Now I'm at "God I suck" and I'm considering getting into Bass, just to try something different. I might get a new amp, instead, though.

Sounds like something I thought would be eventually gratifying will throw me into a spiral of self pity and being depressed with my fail.

But if you spiral for long enough, you'll be able to feel the gratification as you climb back out of your spiral.

I can't really comment on where I live now, since I've only lived here for 2 weeks, but where I used to live, I didn't know any bass players, but it seemed like everyone played guitar.

Also, I'm considering getting a Vox VT30. I watched some Youtube videos and read some reviews on it, and it seems like a giant step up from what I have now (Marshall MG10, Yeah I know). It seems like a new amp with a multitude of effects and whatnot what definitely make playing a bit more fun, and it should sound better.
Either that, or I'll get a Bass Guitar. I already have a Bass amp.

Also when you get to the "Oh man I'm shit at guitar" phase, don't buy loads of stuff that you think will make you sound better, because lots of people buy endless pedals and other effects and stuff when they've only been playing for a year or so. I'd say stick to the guitar, amp and one or two pedals until you're pretty good.

    I agree with this man.
People should do what I did. Play for 4 years through a shitty 15 watt practice amp, get good at playing instead of playing around with effects and shit. Then treat themselves to a nice amp.
Not having reverb for years teaches you to hold a note as long needed rather than stop short and let the reverb carry it on a tny bit longer.

Vox VT's are the shiznit. I have a Vox VT50. The range of sounds you can get out of it is great. Plus it has 8 banks to save my favourite setups to.

Valve pre-amp plus solid-state customization, with the shit-loud tube amplification tacked on and you've got a boss amplifier.

It's pretty nice, bro. I prefer Steve Vai's Morley because it automatically bypasses when you take your foot off, a lot less tiresome heel-to-toe. But if you're not planning on doing some really spastic wah solos then the Crybaby is great.

Dude, you start of playing a few riffs, and think you are the dogs bollocks, then you hit a riff that takes weeks to get right, and to teach your finger that your the fucking master. Then you are at the shit yeah state of mind, till another harder riff or solo comes along, then you succeed there, it's not easy, but thats what makes it satisfying, the fact you are aiming high and slogging along until you get it right and conquer that bitch ass riff and break its legs!!!!

Jesus christ try it before you buy it, play it for hours if you have to, don't ever buy shit without trying it.
