My friend has the LY Drop carve and he really digs it. I really like white zombies on it, smooth 180s when I tried it out. Its a quality board and I would suggest it. The vault board I cannot comment on quality or anything about it. Never heard of them but if you wanna break for the LY go for it, if you wanna save with the vault go for it. Its up to you. I can only comment on the LY deck.

What slides are you trying to learn? If it rains, wait for the rain to stop than head outside while the pavement is wet and work on them. Its so much easier to break out a slide on wet pavement but beware because it can be hard to control. I've busted my ass so many times in wet pavement but I've also done some of the best slides I've ever done in the wet pavement.

Go faster. It really does help to get some speed going because you have way more time in the slide so you can really get a feel and build some muscle memory to work off of. The best part about colemans is if you don't grab rail and you lose your board mid slide at a decent speed than you just slide around on your pucks and shoes. Seriously though going faster can help a lot. Wait till you try toeside pendies, hahaha those are scary as shit took me a week or two to get some confidence in speed with them.

Thanks for the advice, man. Second I get the deck, presuming the hurricane doesn't annihilate the city, I'm heading to Central Park on my board and trying it out.

Sounds pretty good to me. I recommend abec11 wheels, I ride some bigzigs and love them. My friend has flashbacks and they are great for sliding and all around. They are $30 on longboardskater so thats a total deal since most 70mm wheels are $50.

Heh, thanks. The thing is amazing- the slide rails are fantastic though I haven't had a chance to use them in full, the grip tape is ungodly. Seriously, it's like glue, it's brilliant. The deck is so wide but not to the point of annoyance, so you have a lot of room to work with. I got the 41" version, but I'd imagine the 36" is just as brilliant.

Hey guys, I've had my longboard for quite a while now and I've noticed while riding it that it turns like a freaking battleship. I've tried various things like loosening the king pin and flipping the bushings, but none of those seem to give me a more carvey feel to it. I'm riding on a Loaded Vanguard with Bear Grizzly 852 trucks with the stock bushings. Does anyone have an idea how I can get a more turny feel on my board? Is it just a case of getting a new set of bushings or is it something else?

Bears make all bushings feel extremely hard, much harder than anything else. So go super light on the bushings http://motionboardshop.com/bushinghelp or you could just get new trucks all together. I suggest something like 50 caliber trucks or 50 degree randals. I hope you didn't loosen your kingpin and you just mean you just loosened the nut that clamps on the bushings.

You can slide anything. Its just a matter of how fast your going. Cool beans on the scimitar though. Abec11 Flashbacks? I'm getting a set for my next freeride wheel.

My area's being plagued by annoying headwinds(fatal in the flat lands of my neighborhood) and humidity. It would seem the honeymoon period is over. A cruiser will work MUCH better than a shortboard for travel skating if you've got rocky roads. Flat isn't that big of a problem if you get appropriate bearings, it's not preferable but it's something you'll encounter most of the time any way.

And that depends on how much you like it, what parts you choose and how it holds up. Especially that last bit. The Dervish is fantastic from what I've heard.

As for the grip, all that's to it is to see how it feels. I'm not too sure how spray on griptape really feels, all of my decks have the standard taped style.

Finally; anybody else love how darkeh just rates the entire page dumb?

Yeah I did mean the nut I followed the guide on that link and I've ordered some venom super carves (I think they were called that), so I hope that works. If not I guess I'll just save up for some randals. Thanks for your help.

Don't go loaded. Get something cheaper with a kicktail. Checkout the comet ethos. This way you can do ollies up onto curbs and stuff like that. It'll also function for speed if you tune the trucks right. Get your own grip tape too.

Loaded Dervish are Wonderful if you just want to carve and cruise around... Its fucking expencive.. But All the money worth! Also a great beginnerboard if you have some skills with skateboarding. I was going mad by the noise of the Skateboard and that you had to kick every 2 second... Longboard is silent, smooth, chilled out, and very fast! :D Great for a speedjunkie like me xD

There are plenty of cheaper alternatives to the loaded dervish, a board with no flex and in my opinion is all hype. Gravity makai and kracked skulls are cheaper alternatives to those wanting to try longboarding and still have that flexy, carving feel.

You can always order something online. I say go for it man. Buying a longboard is something you will be able to use for years. Even if you don't get hooked on it there will be those times when your like I need something to do than spy your dusty longboard and go for a spin. Or if you go to some place beachy they are a nice mode of transportation. You just gotta take that leap and if you get hook'd like so many of us than more power to ya. If you don't well you now have a longboard and basically have a easy mode of transportation and something fun to do when you get bored. I'd say go for it and why can't you just buy something online? If your local shop doesn't have much than buy online or you can ask them to order you something to the shop.

Practice this for about a week straight. Any time you need to slow down, try foot braking until you feel comfortable doing it in pretty much all situations. After that, practice stepping off of your board at low speeds in all directions and eventually at higher speeds until you can do that too comfortably, jogging to a stop rather than being bound to your board all the way into a wreck.

I can footbrake from 25 mph and then step off at 10, to bend down and grab my board at the crosswalk.

I haven't fallen hard since I've taken the time to practice those two crucial things. It amazes me how many people learn to do such a thing without practicing bailing.

EDIT: Also, I recently switched from Lucky bearings to Reds. The Lucky's were smooth as fuck, but the Reds are SMOOTH AS FUCK..
