Does anyone here ride Penny's ? Pretty fun and plan on getting one in a couple of weeks except the "Nickel" ver. because of my big ass feet (size 13). Anyways they are either 22' or 27' depending on which you get. Nice crusing and small bombing . Good beach board /point a to point b kinda board that's a real chill ride. Oh yeah and its made of plastic like old school boards.

Small enough that you can do tricks with depending on who you talk to they are allot easier or allot harder to do because of its length and material:

    Oh yeah and :

    Specs: DECK - 22” long x 6“ wide
TRUCKS - 3” wide high performance branded Penny Trucks with 87A super soft yellow bushings
WHEELS - 59mm 78A urethane cored super smooth Penny wheel
BEARINGS - Abec 3 high speed precision stainless steel bearings

    "Nickel" ver. :DECK - 27” long x 7.5“ wide
TRUCKS - 4” wide high performance branded Penny Trucks with 87A super soft yellow bushings
WHEELS - 59mm 78A urethane cored super smooth Penny wheel
BEARINGS - Abec 3 high speed precision stainless steel bearings

God riding in >45 weather is such shit on your face, so much wind rash. So glad I had my fullface for at least half of it, I just can't justify freeriding in it because if I fall with it I'd be so pissed.

You could use just about any wheel for freestyle, so just pick some nice freeride wheel. I recommend Retro Freerides, Metro Motion, Cult Classics, Zombie Hawgs, S9 round lipped wheels, or Slide B's.

ABEC 11 Flashbacks 81a. They're like $33 on longboardskater.com and a super popular wheel that has held up to the test of time. Fucking love abec 11 classic thane. Plus no other 70mm wheel can beat its price.

I'm looking into buying my first longboard and I'm just wondering if there is anything I should know.

Most of what I know is advice from my friend who told me a 40' board with 70mm 75a wheels would be great for a beginner like me. (Cruising and hill bombing once I get the hang of it.) Anything else I should know before I make a purchase? I'll be spending around 200 CAN and plan on asking the people working at the skate shop for any advice as well.
I hate to re-quote my own post but I plan on buying one today and didn't get an answer.

    Pick a deck you like.

Get some 50 degree trucks from caliber.

Get some Abec 11 Zigzags in 78a or 81a. Both are amazing duros.

Thanks for the advice! I ended up getting a sector 9 board and replacing the wheels with the Zigzags. I'm pretty happy with it so far

    Edited:

The skate shop I was at didn't carry Caliber trucks so I stuck with the gullwings that came with the board

Gullwings have definitely improved lately my best suggestion is to change the stock bushings in your trucks. Get some venoms up in that bitch and find a bushing setup that works for you.

Flashbacks last pretty much forever, they wear so nicely and pretty much never flatspot.

Its pretty much the end all be all recommended board to anyone looking for a first deck. Its so versatile and is a great jack of all trades. I really want to try the microdrop version because I love me some microdrop but first things first, get some cindrich gen 4 precision trucks.

Alright, although the only one like that on switchbacklongboards is a top-mount (I think). Is there a major difference between drop through and top-mount? I've never ridden a longboard before, let alone owned one haha.

Top mounts are higher up from the ground and generally turn better.

A better choice would be a board with a shorter wheelbase, or learning to predrift.
