The government isn't taking away anything. The people voted for it. If their legistature had made laws against gay marriage because of religious beliefs, then there would be a 'seperation of church and state' issue.
I know this is a late response but the government even allowing a vote to repeal gay marriage is, once again, much like if they had allowed a state-wide vote to repeal black people's voting rights.

So in a way, yes, they are responsible.

Yeah, because forming one's own opinions is definately trolling.
Opinions? So far you haven't backed a single one of those opinions up with a logical argument. If you can't prove your point logically and refuse to see the logic in the argument of others, you're one of two things. A tool or a troll.

For your satisfaction, here's a short list of words and phrases synonymous with "tool" in the context I'm using it.

    Sheep.
    Narcissist.
    Bigot.
    Zealot.
    Self-righteous tard.

Yeah, okay. I see the irony of my posts here. The fact is that you can believe what you want to believe so long as you treat homosexuals with the same courtesy and respect you'd show any other person. If your prejudices affect your actions toward them, THEN I've got a huge fucking problem.

    Get the picture yet?

Which is exactly it. Some states even have charges against sodomy. The government of a country that claims to be a democracy (Ha, ha) has no place in the bedrooms of their citizens.
Actually, all sodomy laws were repealed in 2003 after Lawrence v. Texas

I never said I acted liked Hitler or something towards them. If needed, I will show courtesy, but I still will think they're immoral fools. Why is it that my opinion makes me a bigot while everyone else has comments criticizing Maine's decision and are flooded with Agree ratings?

They were already given their say, gay marriages were made legal. Then they voted again and gay marriages were banned again. Why vote in the first place if they were just going to let it get ditched?

For minors? Isn't that kinda pointless considering they're under the age of consent anyway?

The age of consent in the US is 18 right? That doesn't really matter if both people are under it, two minors having sex isn't really illegal, but sodomy between minors (in Virginia) is.

I don't think so (not 100% sure about this), it's illegal for someone over the AoC to have sex with someone under it, it's called statutory rape or something like that.

"If Question 1 fails and LD 1020 is allowed to take effect, marriage will be redefined to be about any two consenting adults without regard to gender, the focus being only about what the adults want for themselves, and not what is best for society as a whole. The roles of husbands and wives would become irrelevant. The reliance on marriage as an important fabric of society will no longer matter and the marriage laws will not consider what is best for children."

Matters of personal belief rarely need to be backed up. It's the moral sense of the person. I believe gay marriage is highly immoral and degrading and should be banned. I don't need to give explanations on why I believe so, it's what I believe is immoral, and the sense of Right and Wrong in people is constant, and varies from person to person.

But laws aren't based on morals or your definition of right and wrong, they're based on the motherfucking Constitution.

Of course they need to be backed up.

Killing is wrong because if infringes on the person's right to live and it make their friends and family feel sad.

Stealing is wrong because it's not of the persons right to take it without permission.

Rape is wrong because the majority of people feel very bad and violated when they're raped and they can get an STD.

It's not hard. Every rational opinion has a reason to it. Yours doesn't.

Fine. I believe wearing the colour green on a Tuesday to be immoral, and I'm going to get all my friends to form a crazy pressure group who'll all vote on this and hopefully we'll make it illegal to wear green on Tuesdays!
You have to have a reason as to why you see something as immoral and degrading. Why? Is it because gay people do it up the butt? Do you just get freaked out by gay people? If you can't back up your opinions beyond "just because" then you have no right to deny this right from people.

Because of the fucking concept of equality which this country is founded upon and because Abahamic religion along with many others have no evidence to substantiate any of their texts.

You can not make laws for reasons like that...

If person A isn't violating person B's rights, then there's no purpose for that law to exist. It's that simple.

The belief alone makes you a horrible person, and the fact you call it immoral for no reason makes it even worse. That's not even prejudice because you can't justify it, it's just plain hate.

I can justify it using aspects of religion, but then again, most of Facepunch is composed of atheist, egotistic assholes, so what would be the point of that?

I find it funny I get called an idiotic, prejudizing bigot just because I'm standing up for my beliefs.

Why not use something all of us can agree on? Logic.

"This is wrong because God said it is" is a circular argument. The only asshole here is you, because you're willing to use religion as a veil to hide the fact that you simply hate gay people.

So because the Bible has no evidence to support its validity that means some of the morals taught in it are invalid?

You're also forgetting the United States was founded by Protestants who wanted a religion based on Judeo-Christian ethics. Saying you support the way the government was founded but saying religion is just one big lie makes you nothing but a hypocrite.
