So, sometime this week I'll get the ODST Pod ripped and rigged so cheese can use it, just need to do some minor texture setup for the monitors and acquire the related sounds. (Don't know about the sounds, I may be able to get them but I cannot be certain if I can as of right now.)

    Well, I know this app named alteration can rip the textures just fine, you can get it from rework3d.com under the Halo 3 Apps section, however model rips are trickier and as it turns out, not released yet. I was a bit confused when I nabbed the app, and it doesn't have the model ripping tool in it, but I am in contact with Spartan094. Hopefully he'll let us rip the pod; he has the actual model ripper, all I can do is take bitmaps right now. (Wish I could get it ASAP, but I don't have the necesscary application right now.)

    The ripping of ODST stuff is the same as Halo 3 stuff, so it's fairly easy to get the textures themselves, just depends if Spartan094 Releases the model ripping plugin or not, since there's only a few people with the actual models. I've asked him about it recently, since my pod model still needs proper UVW maps and they joysticks added, as well as texturing done to it. (I'd release the actual model right off the bat if I could get the ODST version, since I can spend time working on porting that rather than fucking with UVWs that I honestly hate dealing with.)

    Also, the HEV pod model I have is more along the lines of "Concept Art Version" Than "Ingame Version". The proportions are something of a bizzare mix between the ODST one and the concept art one.

    alright, check out the first post. i changed the specular map, there a before and after picture. do any of you think the after picture is too little specular or too much or just enough?

    yes but i don't think you wouldn't find it interesting so i didn't post it. you should always check my first post cus i edit it all the time to avoid minor bumps to the thread. im experimenting with some damage functions to make sure you can shoot down the pod and people can shoot you in the pod while you are opening the hatch.

    also, anyone working on the New Mombasa Project (like you) will be able to get their hands on the pod before the release.

    Here's my comments/criticism based on what I've seen so far:

Also, will you be able to steer the pod with a bit of control over where you land? Not a lot, just enough to send you about 10-20 feet away from the spot you would have dropped on.     Also, maybe some screen shake effects when the pod hits the ground.

    1) actually, it takes 10 shots from the cross bow to shoot it down, or about 7 rpgs (the pod has 1000 Health)
    2) Yes you can steer the pod. First put the pod into full override and you can steer it with wasd keys. But you need to pay attention to the pod's altitude cus once it's in override, you need you deploy the chute and fire the thrusters manually.
    3) I came up with the fuel system when i realized that you could put the pod into override right when you leave the launcher and start the thrusters. this meant that you would have a 99% chance of a safe landing. you could also move far away from the normal landing zone until you land. the fuel system gives the occupants a challenge when using the pod on override so they need to use their landing and maneuvering fuel effectively to survive. There will be 2 fuel tanks, one for the landing thrusters and one for maneuvering.
    4) Yea your in the beta, any one in the NM project doesn't need a reason. i'm sending the beta tonight.

    I think it would be nicer to have the drop pod have RT camera showing below and maybe above you.
    Also to turn the thursters on, instead of switching modes. Just have the shift button activate and deactivate thrusters

    i want to keep it realistic so i'm trying to avoid cameras outside of the pod. i was thinking of having right click as the toggle for the thrusters when the pod separates from it's chute. but for now, the thrusters will continue to be on when the pod detaches it's chute.

    I think you should just get rid of the refectivity of the drop pod all together, I doubt it would like all nice and shiney after droppin' from orbit. Also, that weren't shiny in Halo. D:

    What if you dont deploy the parachute and the trusthers. doest it kill you then?

    Probably, it would make sense. In the New Mombasa Project thread there's a picture of two ODST pods from The Ark without their chutes deployed and the ODSTs are dead nearby.
