The way I see it is, it's good for a Star Trek game (despite not feeling all that Star Trekky) but bad for an MMO.

When was the last time you played it?

Felt like every single over MMO out there except with a space setting.

Do people still play this game? If so, how much has changed since launch? It was pretty fun but it got repetitive after a while for me, and there was a distinct lack of diplomacy and in-ship missions (mainly because there was no ship interior). Have they fixed any of that? I'm thinking of subbing again.

    I still play

It has gotten better. Mission Replay (accessed from the console in bridge ready room) and User-Generated Content (Still in beta though) are in, Crafting was redone, Aegis Ship Upgrades Crafting set, Borg ship upgrades from the STFs, and new dailies for the KDF is all I can remember from the top of my head.

Got any links to the info on said overhaul? I played the open beta and loved the space combat but hated every second of the very much forced ground combat... I'd be very interested in trying it again if the ground combat was fixed. Or has there been more improvements since beta?

Yes, they plan on replacing the current ugly ass space-dock with the Space-dock seen in the Movies/Series. Possibly in a PVP or PVE event.

I'm on the STO forums every day. I play a couple times a week, I have a Lifetime sub.

    Edited:

This game is way better then it was at launch.

Sounds pretty good, but what I really want to see is in-ship missions, though. I mean, 90% of the show takes place on their ships, and I find it a bit odd that they haven't taken that into account in STO. Great to hear that they're actively improving it though, I'll have to give it another try.

Thought it worthy to bump this thread because of new updates. Really like season 3 and its overhaul of the crafting system (I CAN ACTUALLY MAKE SHIT NOW!!!) I tried the foundry on the tribble test shard and it has some great potential to be the best MMO content creator. New utra items (Aegis/Borg) have been added which is cool as well.

If you guys are on the tribble test server they released a new version of the First post-Tutorial mission "Stranded in Space" they added some cutscenes, new dialogue and changed the maps.

You can access it from the Mission replay terminal from your ready room on your ships bridge, or make a new character... but thats the long way. It also scales with your characters level.

    Edited:

Cryptic goof'd again, the new Klingon shuttle on tribble Transwarps to ESD. You can't beam down to ESD, but you can go to any other starbase, beam down and change ships. Also apparently all the civilians on DS9 pack phasers.

Well a lot... Daily Borg missions? Don't remember anything like that. They have added 2 new missions series 5 missions each, a third one starting February 5th.
Klingon PvE missions. new ships, higher level Cap. I dunno, IMO its improved a whole hell of a lot since last year. I would have cancelled my sub the second month in if I was paying monthly, but I had a lifetime so I just kept playing once and a while. I play a lot more now then I did then.

Crafting has improved a a lot.

There is a mission maker on Tribble test server right now, should be on the Live server by sometime in March.

You should check out the official forums or STO wiki

Is it even worth going back into this game? I played it through beta and mildly enjoyed it even though it was a massive grindfest with quests where you go to point A and kill, kill and kill. Not exactly in the Star trek spirit to be honest to boldly go and kill. On release STO was just a huge dissapointment. Heard it's changed a lot now in that year, groundcombat hugely improved, autofire is back, weekly episodes etc and just wondered if it was worth checking out again?

That'd be a good idea if borg had free will at all. Being able to play as them would feel kinda contradictory to their entire point.

Well, I mean they'd still be under the control of the Collective, but they can say most players' actions can be simply "orders" from the hive mind.
