Just got back from seeing it. Wonderful movie, and one that lives up to the hype, and to the trailer. Sadly, the riddle doesn't really fit in the real world. I would've enjoyed it a bit more if they had explained the machines. The girl being introduced into extraction accepted it pretty quickly, that's my only complaint.

Cobb wasn't woken up last. He and Saito woke up at the same time. Fischer got out with everybody except Cobb and Saito. The reason they got out later is because Saito died, leaving him in Limbo, so Cobb had to go rescue Saito from Limbo. The Dream Machine is a pretty fast thing, it gets set up in less than a minute every time it is deployed. It probably takes less than that to pack it up. Also, by the time Cobb and Saito woke up, they already packed up the machine.

I don't understand how limbo works. In the guide it says "The final level was Limbo and dreamed by no one, since it's a place of shared consciousness". Is that implying that limbo is a state of one's own mind or an actual world where all human subconsciouses that fall too deep co-exist?

Few plot holes I want to mention as I don't understand them.
When it he is talking to his wife about how they grew old together it shows them as old, however when they decide to "wake" from that dream they are shown as young about to get run over, why would it show them as being young??
Also I don't understand the whole limbo thing, that one guy got shot, died and went into the limbo world? So why did he age and Leo not? If it really took that long to find him.
Movie was good but damnit just too many complications.

I'm pretty sure that was just symbolism to show the audience that they were in limbo for a very long time and "grew old" together; I don't think they literally aged in limbo.

apparently they should have aged, the Asian guy did while he was in limbo. Also, the reason why the Asian guy aged so much in limbo and Cobb did not is because the Asian guy died much earlier at the snowy CoD:MW2 looking place, but Cobb didn't die until he was stabbed by Mal in his memory of limbo

Just got back from seeing it. Obviously, AMAZING and BRILLIANT , but I was really expecting them to pull some Matrix shit because you know, they were in a dream. I definitely have stuff I wanna discuss, but I think I'll keep it to my own and have fun figuring out stuff.

Basically, Eams talks about how limbo is near infinite so Cobbs took "years" to find Saito in limbo and when he did he remembered and woke up

Haven't seen it yet, just a quick question:
Is it worth the extra price for IMAX? Does it actually have IMAX effects or is it like Toy Story 3 (which really didn't have any reason to release in IMAX 3D)?

Well it's not in IMAX 3D, just IMAX. Even so, it's definitely worth the extra few dollars to see it in IMAX. Watching Inception in a normal theater with an average screen and lousy surround sound doesn't do it justice.
Also, while I know I shouldn't, I get angry at my friends who say this movie is horrible because it's too complex and the ending isn't "normal." It's sad that the people I know would rather watch Transformers 2 then Inception... :smithicide:

Great movie, but like I pointed out above, few continuity errors and plot holes.
I don't see how Saito was in there for THAT long, maybe a VERY short time is a LONGGG time in there and the few minutes that Cobb was in the 4th level and eventually died Saito grew old, but how could killing themselves in limbo bring him back?

I understand how time stands still in limbo, I just don't understand the core concept of what limbo actually is if that makes any sense.

but he got over mal, so wouldn't getting over Mals death signifies as letting her go, Thus the ring would disappear as she dose in his dreams. His kids look the same, same clothes too, they just turn around, maybe him coming to truth with mals death ect ect enabled him to see his kids faces in his dream but he had to lose a part of him self to do that, and that was mal, so the ring disappeared with mal. I'm torn between reality and dream, as I hope its reality. The ending was definitely left open for debate

In the scene with old saito, which takes place afer letting go of Mal, he still has the ring on, so no he would still have it apparently
Its not said in the film how long its been and thus how different the kids should look age wise, however IMDB lists two seperate kids used for his children, with the age difference stated in the name of the character, and that being 2 years apart. So i guess that means it has been 2 years and the kids should be older. So who knows

the ending was disappointing, has been done a billion times and one would think with the creative energy invested in the rest of the plot that something better could have been thought of. to be honest a screenplay with that kind of ending would have failed miserably in the industry had it not been proposed by nolan

I like how the ending itself was Inception, Nolan planted an idea in our head about what happened, and we're making the rest up. Love it

how has an ending the audience is supposed to interpret and decide for by themselves and by using hidden clues throughout the movie to help them come up with their own conclusions been done a billion times.

i'm going to have to watch this movie again. probably when it hits the dollar theater because i don't feel like paying $11 for another ticket.

They were. But if the kids at the end of the film were supposed to be two years older looking than they were in the dreams, then they should've used those kids again. They used the same, younger kids.

proof it was a dream, as they didn't age/ OR they cut a corner by filming the last scene with younger actors

Do you read books at all? And you do understand that you just defined an ambiguous ending, and I surely hope that you don't think that an ambiguous ending has never been used before
Pan's Labyrinth, for instance, had a similar way of doing things.
and I think it's really funny that people are now saying "oh my god, nolan used inception on us!!!" when from the instant that tom hardy's character described inception in the beginning I knew that nolan would try to use it at the end, it came off as over indulgent and cheap.
oh, and the dialogue, just simply fabulous. Saito: But we're all in my dream! Nash: NO...WE'RE IN MINE.
and was cobb using inception on his wife supposed to be some sort of twist? I'm sure from the instant that cobb mentioned that he used inception on one person before that everyone knew what he was talking about.

it goes either way. He doesn't have the ring on and the top was wobbling, but the kids are the same age. Either ending works here really

I was talking about movies, not books. I also didn't say an ambiguous ending has never been used before either, calm down lol.
Your point about this being done a billion times is still a silly exaggeration if you're talking about movies.

i know, but you defined an ambiguous ending, that's what they're for--to make you review the film again and to look for details that explain the ending. And Pan's Labyrinth WAS a film example. 8 1/2 is another one

One of the only things I don't totally understand is How exactly did Cobb find Saito in limbo if it's suppose to be infinite and isn't it personal to the person?
Followed the rest of the movie pretty well though, but I agree the "I used Inception on Mol" was blatantly obvious for the entire movie.

yes I'm well aware of what an ambiguous ending is. But I didn't say it never happens, just that it doesn't happen in movies billions of times which is what I thought you were saying. I don't see how naming me a movie with an ambiguous ending is going to suddenly prove me wrong when the point I was making is that ambiguous endings in a film aren't a common occurrence when it comes to the usual shit you see in the movies, and NOT that ambiguous endings never happen. Do you understand what I'm saying now?

I saw it, and was blown away. Just... wow. Amazing.
As for the ending I believe he was in the real world, and no longer dreaming. For many of the same reasons already stated
Alternately (and I only thought of this because I'm bored) What if Cobb is still "in a dream", only, not any of the movie character's dreams. Instead he is in Christopher Nolan's dream.
Movies are often projections of the ideals, beliefs, creativity, and dreams of their creator/director. In this case, Nolan was both. This is purely his idea.
Cobb is essentially still in a dream world, because it is what Nolan created in his head, before projecting it on film. He was the Architect, dreamer, and main player in this "dream". The top never falls. Nolan never gives it a chance. We, as the viewer, are stuck with the vision of it spinning, never to fall no matter how long we watch. And the character of Cobb is, in some sense, a projection of Nolan's subconscious.
Oh good god. I'm waaay to tired to be thinking right now... That above stuff probably made no sense. (Or has been said before. If so, my bad!)

Yeah, the second he gave that look when they asked who I thought it was assumed that he did it to his wife and that was what caused her death

Also I love how at least once, every character in the film is called by their character poster codename (tourist, shade, extractor, etc)

does anyone else find it kind of weird that the grandfather knew to be at the airport towards the end? i don't recall him being explicitly told when Cobb would be coming home.
