    Hi guys. I'm working on redesigning my site so that it has a more clean minimalistic style that is easy to view. Here is the old layout/theme of my website;

    And here is the theme I'm now working on;

    Should I continue to develop the new style or am I going down the wrong road here?

    Thanks for any advice :).

    It's a hell of a lot better than the old one.

    I would consider the new one to be a minimalistic theme, which is good. If you know a bit about design & typography then you could do something more, but otherwise you're on the right track

    Thanks, I don't really know much about design & typography but I know a lot more about XHTML and CSS than I did when the original design was implemented. As you can see in the screenshots, the old site doesn't use valid XHTML whereas the new design in 100% valid and standards compliant.

    Yeah that might be a good idea mr muck, although I'm planning on having most of the content inside my wordpress blog so people can just log into that. Do you guys think its best to have your content inside a blog for ease of maintainability or is it better/more professional to have your content on html pages you made yourself?

    I wouldn't put ads there, put them in the footer or something. They are just in an annoying spot imo.

    Indeed, someone might misclick on the ads (and nobody wants that, of course).

    OK thanks, I'll consider repositioning the ads. Thanks for the tip.

    Would you guys suggest using a wordpress blog for my articles or should I just put them in normal XHTML pages?

    Depends on your knowledge. You can make a posting system yourself if you have enough knowledge in PHP, it's not hard, just takes a bit time.

    You should really watch it with those contrasting colors. It doesn't look fantastic. Black, white, and an in between grey? Ick. Also, textures are always good.
