Stargate Universe is set on the Ancient ship Destiny, which was launched unmanned hundreds of thousands of years ago. Several ships were sent ahead of it to seed the universe with Stargates. The Ancients had planned on using the Stargate to board Destiny when it was far out enough into the universe, but learned how to ascend before that time. In order to reach this ship, an address would have to be dialed consisting of nine chevrons, a possibility that had been unknown in the previous Stargate series.

The series begins when a team of soldiers and scientists from present-day Earth step through the Stargate to find the Destiny after their base is attacked. Many of its primary systems are damaged or failing, and they are unable to maneuver the ship or even return to Earth. However, the Destiny periodically stops to dial the Stargate to planets with necessary supplies to repair the ship. The writers have discussed the possibility that each season represents a voyage of the Destiny through a different galaxy.

    Stargate Universe 2.0 Trailer

The Stargates were created millions of years ago by an alien race known as the Ancients; their modern history begins when Egyptologist Daniel Jackson deciphers their workings in the Stargate film.

A Stargate is a portal device that allows practical, rapid travel between two distant locations. Within the Stargate fictional universe, Stargates are large rings composed of superconductors with nine "chevrons" spaced around their circumference. The inner ring, which rotates within the outer, contains thirty-eight unique symbols representing star constellations and one symbol representing the planet or point of origin. Pairs of Stargates function by generating an artificial stable wormhole between them, allowing one-way travel through. The symbols on the inner ring of the Stargate correspond to constellations and serve to map out coordinates for various destination planets. A typical Stargate measures 6.7 m (22 ft) in diameter, weighs 29,000 kg (64,000 lbs) and is made of the fictional heavy mineral "naqahdah".[/release]

    Episode 1 - Air: Part 1

    Episode 2 - Air: Part 2
After arriving on the Destiny, the team discovers that the ship's life support system is failing, and they must find a way to fix it.

    Episode 4 - Darkness: Part 1
Power fails on the Destiny, but the ship has maneuvered toward three probably-habitable planets to save the crew. Meanwhile, Eli Wallace records individual messages from the crew in case they don't survive.
    Episode 5 - Light: Part 2
Following from the end of "Darkness", the Destiny is on a collision course with a star. A plan is devised to use the last working shuttle to evacuate to one of the three planets. However, there is only room for seventeen people and no time for additional trips, so a lottery is held to determine who will leave. Ultimately it's discovered Destiny was flying into the sun to replenish its power and afterwards the shuttle docks with Destiny which jumps back into FTL.
    Episode 6 - Water
The ship arrives at an ice planet so the crew can replenish their water supply. While Scott and Young look for suitable ice, the rest of the crew learns that the living dust cloud from "Air (Part 3)" has stowed away on the ship and is rapidly absorbing their remaining water.
    Episode 7 - Earth
Young, Eli, and Chloe use the Ancient communication device to contact Earth. Telford takes over command of the Destiny during the switch, while Williams and Jack O'Neill inform the trio about a potentially dangerous plan that could bring them all back to Earth.
    Episode 8 - Time
During a mission to a jungle planet, the crew finds a Kino from the future that predicts their death from a virulent disease. However, even armed with the knowledge of their deaths, finding a way to stop the disease proves problematic.
    Episode 9 - Life
The scientific crew find an ancient chair interface similar to one in Antarctica used by O'Neill. Lt. Scott and Camille visit their loved ones using the communication stones.
    Episode 10 - Justice
Sgt. Spencer is found dead, and Col. Young is implicated in his possible murder. Meanwhile, a crew member tries to use the chair interface and Rush is marooned on an alien planet, when Col. Young discovers that Rush is the one who framed him.
    Episode 11 - Space: Part 1
A malfunction with the communication stones puts Young accidentally finding himself onboard an alien vessel before quickly transporting back onto Destiny. When the expedition tries to get into contact with the aliens, they find themselves under attack. Chloe is kidnapped and when Col. Young attempts a rescue, he finds Rush as a prisoner on the ship. Together Rush and Chloe escape and Rush makes peace with Col. Young for the sake of the crew.
    Episode 12 - Divided: Part 2
Rush suspects that following the events of "Space", there may be a tracking device on Destiny's hull, while a group executes a coup onboard. The Destiny then comes under attack from the aliens. The military members of the crew are locked up in a section of the ship. Young and Greer escape and let the rest of the military go, and find out that Rush was implanted with a tracking device, and he was afraid that if Young knew about it, he would be killed. The tracking device is removed, and the Destiny jumps into FTL.
    Episode 13 - Faith
The Destiny arrives at a star system that shouldn't exist. The crew discover a planet there that could meet all of their needs.
    Episode 14 - Human
Rush risks his life in an experiment involving the ship's chair interface and flashes back to when he was recruited into the Stargate Program. Gloria Rush, his deceased wife, and Michael Shanks as Daniel Jackson appear in the flashbacks.
    Episode 15 - Lost
The off world team is trapped in some ruins on a planet, and the ordeal brings back memories of Greer's abusive father and inept mother. Meanwhile, the crew on the Destiny continues their attempt at gaining access to the ship's flight controls, so they can rescue Eli, Chloe, Scott and Greer.
    Episode 16 - Sabotage
One of the FTL drives of Destiny explodes, and the crew suspects the aliens that kidnapped Rush and Chloe have taken control of one of the crew members.
    Episode 17 - Pain
When the crew suffers from vivid hallucinations that tap into their personal fears, Tamara Johansen isolates the affected from the rest and then tries to seek out the cause of the affliction as it spreads and becomes life-threatening.
    Episode 18 - Subversion
A blended memory from a communication stone side effect causes Rush to suspect Colonel Telford of collaborating with the Lucian Alliance. Colonel Young and General Jack O'Neill formulate a plan to expose the mole, which requires a little help from Daniel Jackson.
    Episode 19 - Incursion: Part 1
The Lucian Alliance finds a way to board the Destiny and takes several crew members hostage. Samantha Carter tries to locate the captured Rush and the planet from which they are gating to Destiny.
    Episode 20 - Incursion: Part 2
Destiny has a power failure which causes failure of an attempt by Young to overpower the Lucian Alliance leader, Kiva, who shoots a hostage in retaliation. They later realise these power failures are caused by the radiation of a binary neutron star and Destiny is diverting all power to the shields to compensate. Young decides to surrender control of the ship while sending Rush to hide and regain control from one of the other panels aided by Telford. When Kiva and Telford shoot each other the new leader of the Lucian Alliance decides this must be a plot and separates the civilians from the military personnel to "put an end to this". All military personnel are about to be executed when the next burst hits the ship.

I didn't really like the series so far, it just doesn't feel like Stargate anymore. I understand that they are trying to make the characters more believable (which is good when done the right way like Battlestar Galatica) but they aren't doing it right in this. I am optimistic though and hopefully it will grow better as time goes on. I don't want the Stargate series to end with a piece of shit.

It feels like a completely different show, because it is. It doesn't have that classic Stargate feel, because it's not classic Stargate.

It's really slow and is obviously pretty low budget, but I love it all the same.

This will always be a problem. Think about it, Stargate sg1 was sci fi action. Stargate atlantis was sci fi action. This dude has taken the concept in a new direction and with every new direction there will be people that disagree with it. I'm waiting to see how it goes, but so far i can't help but think it's just a soap opera in space.

The new trailer is promising though.

I totally agree but why do people watch it only to complain about how it's not what they want?

They watch it because it's stargate and they expect to be entertained like the last many episodes of sg1/atlantis.

The show was designed to coincide with SyFy channel's new edgy image, so it has to hide the good sci-fi bits inside the new edgy crap. Look hard, and you'll find some of the classic Stargate spirit that we've come to know and love.

Jesus, THE SHIP IS BILLION OF LIGHT YEARS AWAY FROM EARTH, and it's in unknown galaxys - Do you really think there are going to aliens there waiting for them?
    No.
You don't think they are going to jump right into action and place a alien do you? They have to let you get used to what's around you.

    This.

From the looks of it, this half of season one is gonna be bitchin'. Let's also hope they pull off a good season 2 so they can keep going for at least as long as atlantis.

    AWESOME EPIC EPISODE!!!!!11

And how it turned straight into the alien plot instantly was cool.

And wasn't so slow. I guess I thought were going to see how Rush got captured by the aliens. But told the story instead, oh well.

I'm betting the old Destiny crew pissed the Mordin like aliens off somehow.
