:smug: We've had some talk on here about the Slate, but haven't seen any threads on it, so here we go.
This is a motherfucker. This is the HP Slate.
It's a small tablet that's not released yet, but rivaling the iPad.
If this information is completely true, then fuck yeah, a tablet this small with a pen digitizer, multi touch, flash, bluetooth, 3g, VGA inward facing webcam/ and 3 megapixel outward cam, etc..
So it's got an HDMI output and using it's Intel UMA graphics set, it can display movies on you're TV or monitor or whatever at full 1080p playback. Pretty BAMF.
Also it seems to say that the 1gb of ram this comes with is non customer upgradeable, does this mean we could send it back to them for upgrades in ram? Not sure yet, would be pretty sexy if we could.
Yes it can run flash, therefore giving the iPad only one real use in life, and that's being a guest star on the ad show "Will it Blend?". Yes it can.
Personally as an artist I'm really looking forward to see how does the Pen support turn out. Could this be the digital sketchbook we've been waiting for? The operating system is Windows 7 home premium, and uses a flash based HP designed UI for most of the navigation, and it looks pretty much like sex.
Plus running windows 7 I'm sure it'll be able to run shit like Photoshop, and be able to use it with the pens digitizer technology so digital painting and sketching could be really amazing, at like 1024 x 600 res for a tablet, but I'm not too sure about how well the performance would run on something that small, probably lag like fuck. There could be a professional sketching/painting app released for it by Adobe, seeing as how buddy buddy Adobe and HP are.
Seriously, it has a webcam, now your wife can watch you work while she's in the kitchen.
It can even be used for shit like Chatroulette(fuckin flash support) or Msn or whatever, or maybe even those fun lil webcam games that casual people love playing, like pop dem bubbles n shi-.

Can it run alternate OSes, like a laptop? Like regular Windows 7 Home Premium without any HP bullshit/bloatware? Or Linux would be a nice option.

It uses Sd cards, so maybe there will be a way to get an os onto an sd card and install it from there.
And has usb slots too, hard drives could work on it too, not sure.

Yeah, even if HP does for some reason use some kind of brick to stop others from installing their own OS' on it, I'm sure there will be jailbreaks of some sort to allow you to use whatever you want.

That skin looks identical to the JooJoo one. Also I don't care how much skinning HP does to Windows, desktop Windows on a tablet is a baaaaaaaaaad idea

iPad just got its shit rocked by this. Hard.
I'm really impressed by this, actually. I'd get one if I actually had a use for something portable. Maybe when I go back to college, I dunno. I'd find more use out of a netbook or laptop, to be honest.

Hmm, Ui sucks and lags, bad battery time and by the look of those videos it's only made to say: hey apple, you suck for not liking flash!
IMO this won't sell very much, I think they should have made it better.

Any program which isn't available on the App store or Android or even Windows marketplace already is probably not going to work well on a touchscreen or on an Atom processor. With 5 hour battery life this is actually worse than a netbook, which is more designed for Windows anyway since it has a mouse and keyboard.

Meh, doesn't look as good as the iPad. The main thing I like about it is the webcam and the SD card slot but some gimmicky features like 1080P playback (on 1024*600 screen) instead of focusing on making the os better which gives the iPad an advantage.

I think they were just tryin to show off the USB slot, it's Win7 and can read an iPod through USB, meaning it'll probably take other stuff in like keyboards or mice n shit, which would be pretty cool, USB hard drives etc..
Don't like it? I don't think we have to use it, maybe installing another os on it is possible
