We just switched to a new display standard. It'll be another 40 years before we even consider switching TV signal format again. Streamed movies also have a fuckton of artifacts and blocking. I fucking hate that they sell this shit! If they kill physical distribution, quality is forever fucked.

I think it's at least 4k x something if done digitally
not sure how you'd compare with 35mm celluloid films
both are very different and there are different ways of comparing them
this reminds me recently christopher nolan has started campaigning against the movement away from celluloid

I've seen some films shot digitally and they've looked very cheap and distractingly un-cinematic, while others have obviously been more refined in the process and look way better.

Just purchased both Terminator 1 and 2 off Amazon.
The Blu-Ray book edition of Terminator 1 is on sale today only I believe for $10. Figured it was worth getting.

The extras are pretty neat, like the book, except for the wallet, it really isn't made with quality in mind.

i finally got the alien anthology on blu-ray, and for only 35 bucks.
Very nice collection, damn it was worth waiting for a good deal.

I didn't even know it came with collectible shit, so I can't complain about the quality of any of the trinkets.
Getting the Ultimate Edition was actually cheaper then getting the Standard Collector's edition. Fancy that. I had to double check to make sure.
So did I fuck up getting the Skynet edition? Or is there really no stand out, must have edition of Terminator 2?

Well I just watched it and I was happy for what I paid ($5). My only complaint is that it well over 5 minutes from putting the disk in to actually start playing the damn thing.

I ended up pre-ordering the 4 disc pack. It has the DVD, Blu-ray, 3D Blue-ray and digital copy. As well as tons of bonus stuff. That's a lot of Avengers

i watched it a few years ago. one of the "classics" i don't think holds up (but i don't think citizen kane holds up either). i don't mean cinematography or all that but for entertainment value

I don't own any of the Marvel movies on blu ray yet, and if I start buying them separate now, then I will have no reason to carry on with my purchase of Phase One.
On the bright side, both Amazon Prime and Netflix have all the movies minus The Avengers, and Amazon Prime will be getting that as an instant video shortly after release for Prime users.

I just got the 'Apocalypse Now' 3 disc collectors edition on amazon. One blu ray has The original 1979 version and the Redux version that came out in 2001. The second Blu ray is purely extra features, a lot of commentary and the struggle it took to make the film with it being over budget and Martin Sheen's heart attack on the set. The third Blu ray is actually the documentary 'Hearts of Darkness' and some extra tid bits, theatrical trailers, photos, some more interviews. Amazing deal on amazon right now on sale for $20. Just watched the original 1979 version last night, was pretty amazing too.

Went and got the Potter Wizards Collection for my family to find that my sister also ordered one... So we're probably one of only a handful of homes with two sets. If you don't count the hoarders, of course.
Over all, this set is pretty great. For anyone who ever wondered how the Hogwarts grounds locations aligned with the others and where different parts of the castle was in relations to others, there's a nice map or two.
Most of the Extra material has been seen before, except for the 8 hour "creating the world of Potter" documentary and an extra disc with 4-5 hours of post-potter docs and interviews.
If nothing else, it seems that all pre OoTP movies has either had a new transfer or master from the original material, as the bitrate is now over 20 mbps, where it used to be way lower. Picture quality is great. Without knowledge of technical terms, i can say that there aren't any glaring visual issues. Except that 1-5 still use VC-1 but i don't even know if it's inherently worse than AVC or if it's just because the early Blu-Rays tended to just be HD-DVD clones and the quality was scaled back accordingly.
Audio is 6.1 DTS HD-MA for the first two movies and the rest + the extended editions of 1 and 2 are DTS HD-MA 5.1. I really can't attest to the quality since i only get the core DTS stream out my 5.1 set.
I really don't know what more to say about it or why i even said anything, but feel free to ask questions.
