Then the second half came it, and to be honest, it didn't really work well with the first half. It wasn't necessarily bad, but to me it just didn't really work.
Good job though, I thought it was really fuckin good.
The wonky drums work, but there's a little too much discord in the 1st half for my liking. The arp on the 2nd half is good, but maybe needs to fill a little more space in the track because you get rid of most of the atmosphere from the 1st half
ok i gave the first half a little bit of room and automated the second half for some more interesting effects
thanks for the help guys, and @dead madman, this probably isnt what itll sound like. ill draw out both sections, i start tracks very strangely i guess
I posted this in the hip hop beats thread, figured I might as well share here too. Hip hop beat flipping a well-known funk sample. Let me know your thoughts.
is cubase 6 as amazing as they say it is???
i'm stuck on Cubase 5
ok i did some more stuff to the track but something seems off, let me know what you guys think
I made a new beat:
Been listening to J Dillas Ruff Draft a lot, so it's really raw kinda. I dunno if it is any good really, would love some crits.
You know what that reminds me of?... Nothing, and that's what I like about it. Well it's sort of reminiscent of Panoram, who's pretty unknown but honestly one of my favourite artists ever. If this is a style you want to focus on on expand in some way, I really recommend checking out his stuff. I dunno, it helps to listen to similar-ish music to what you produce I find to keep yourself always in the right mind. Good job though, I'm happy with the truly unique direction you're taking in your productions.
I've been focusing a bit on "side tracks" lately (no pun intended), sort of extended sketches like I would do in my earlier days because I felt my stuff was getting too formulaic in the past months. Is the whispering "just right"? I don't want it to be obvious but I don't want it to be easily overlooked.
Speaking of groove, I love the way your drums feel on this track. They really work together with the sample.
I like the way you play with dissonance too. It gives the track a nice, sorta eerie feel.
My only complaints are that your drums are kind of too muddy, even though I get what you're going for. And the part after 0:45 when that arp thing starts playing constantly is a little too long, it kinda starts to get like over repetitive. It would be cool if it was sorta more subtle, maybe turn it down and put lots of reverb and delay on it and some lfoed filter or something.
Currently working on this. I need to record the left guitar again because I think it's not quite in time. This is just the rhythm. The lead will go on when I have the whole song down.
Is there anything I could do with the drums?
i like it alot. nice job bro, maybe a tad uninteresting after 4 minutes though
Anyway, something I've been working on for a bit since I can't seem to open my "Memories" project (Fucking invalid data bullshit) C&C?
Imo, if you want the effect of destroying the song (which seems to be what you're going for), don't distort the piano, instead use a different source like white noise or something else distorted that gradually drowns out the piano. Much more elegant.
anyway found this shit as I was cleaning up the mac so uploaded
Bunch of experiments really, I think the second one was trying to figure out how slowdive and my bloody valentine got that sound, ended up with something weirder
When you guys create music. Are you ever afraid that you may accidentally snuck in pieces of melody by other people into your work?
There's only so many notes/chords, that you're bound to 'copy' someone without knowing at some point.
The second one sounds like it would be really awesome to cut up.
I'VE DONE IT! I've made a 16 minute long song that maxed out the extent of what Cubase LE 5 Will allow, something like 60 channels and 8 synths and I used every last one... I've officially gone FUCKING BONKERS
So STOP what you're doing right now and give it a listen please, I poured DAYS of work into this fucker and would really like some comments and criticisms.
